COURSE OVERVIEW
“Drilling Fluids Technology” is aimed at imparting the students with the knowledge of drilling fluids, their properties and their application in the oil and gas industry. Upon completion of this course, participants should be capable of the following: to understand the different mud systems to be run in the field; to be able to know how to trouble-shoot the associated mud problems; to be able to know how to apply the basic material balance equations in determine the quantity of drilling chemicals, water or oil to be applied; to be able to know the criteria to be considered in mud type selection; to understand the applicable field mechanical solids control; and to know different well completion fluids. This course will consist of the following Sections/Modules:
- Pre-course survey/test
- Introduction
- Mud properties
- Classification and chemical analysis of drilling fluids
- Drilling mud calculations
- Mud type selection
- Mechanical solids control
- Work over fluids, formation damage, and packer fluids
This course was designed by Dr. Igwilo Kelvin Chinwuba in collaboration with Dr. Duru Ugochukwu Ilozurike of FUTO. All staff associated with this course, will act as facilitators for the discussion boards.

None.
TIME COMMITMENT
1 – 2 hours per week.

GRADING SCHEME
All activities are due to be completed by October, 26th 2019, 22:30 GMT. You’ll be graded on weekly activities (100% weight in final score) You need to score 70% or higher to pass the course and receive a certificate. You can check your progress by selecting the “Progress” tab
